Our Peter Maurin Community Center ministers to those in the community by providing seasonal clothing, personal hygiene products, bicycles and friendship. We also offer guidance on personal matters where we can help.
The new Peter Maurin Community Center was opened and dedicated in December 2014. We now have the ability to minister to those in need in an area separate from our Dining Hall. Some of those ministries include providing bicycles for our guests; providing clothing items that are seasonally appropriate to our guests; providing personal hygiene items, and just offering a place to enable our guests to be part of the community. If you look closely in the summertime, you can view the beautiful Community Garden between our two buildings. It was made possible through the efforts of Let's Grow Akron.
We offer individual counselling for issues such as rent or utility assistance, procurement of Personal Identification Documents, help with applying for food or Social Security benefits, Housing, Substance Abuse Treatments and many other day-to-day issues our community members might need help with. Additionally, we offer seasonally appropriate clothing, personal hygiene products, medical/first aid provisions and other provisions as available.
From the smallest crumb to a pair of socks, and even a friendly face of hope, The Peter Maurin Center invites anyone who loves community to join us in doing good deeds for those in need. Every single person and effort means the world.
